Healthcare professionals are often one of the few groups that trafficking victims may encounter while still under exploitation, making it essential to recognize the signs and respond appropriately. This course provides an in-depth understanding of human trafficking, its impact on victims, and the role of healthcare providers in identification, intervention, and support. Participants will learn how to apply trauma-informed care, navigate reporting procedures, and utilize resources to assist victims effectively. Through real-world case studies, practical strategies, and expert insights, this course empowers healthcare professionals to become advocates for trafficking victims and contribute to the fight against exploitation.

Hello, my name is Carrie Schirato. First, and most importantly I am a wife and a mother of 5 amazing kiddos. I am a Nurse Practitioner, a co-founder and Executive Director of Reclaim611, and the owner of Reclaim Healthcare and Wellness, PLLC.

I have always been a bit of an adrenaline junkie and a people lover, so it’s really no surprise that I have been working in the Emergency Department since 2005. I graduated from Baylor University (Sic’em) with my Bachelors of Science in Nursing. My love for emergency medicine compelled me to complete my Masters and Post-Masters certificate at the University of Texas at Arlington, and worked as a Nurse Practitioner at a Level 1 Trauma Center in Dallas Texas for 10 years. 

I have spent the majority of my career missing opportunities to help those who are victims of modern-day slavery. However, now that my eyes have been opened and I have been equipped to recognize, respond and report victims of human trafficking my life has been personally and professionally changed forever.

When you stand up for one life you never know the kind of ripple effect of love that will follow….that is my story!
